Conica develops a new, approved shock pad system for sports surfaces

Conica has developed a new shock pad system with independent pre-approval for surfacing contractors.

Approved by the Swiss testing house IST Consulting, the shock pad system consists of Conica SBR rubber granulate and Conica PU binder, which meets the tensile strength requirements for shock pads and E layers according to EN12230 standards.

Mark Keal, Conica’s technical director, said: “As a company it is highly important that we give sports surfacing contractors a tried and tested system.

“This new shock pad, which has undergone numerous trials, is the first to be approved to EN12230, meaning that contractors and applicators can install an approved system without having to undertake independent shock pad testing.

“It gives them a high level of reassurance and means all they need to do is add the turf.”

According to ESTO (European Synthetic Turf Organisation) shock pads are essential for lifting the performance of an artificial turf pitch, for making the surface safer and more comfortable for players, and for guaranteeing their performance over a long period of time.

Conica will supply all the components for a fully tested system, along with adhesive and tape, for the surfacing process.
